I'm just in the process of teaching myself
assembler language, specifically as it pertains to the Microchip PIC
microcontrollers, in the hopes of being able to do something synth-related with
it. One of the first things I would like to tackle would be a simple MIDI
to CV converter. The PIC I am using is a 16F877A. It has a built-in
UART. I have seen some programs designed around other (simpler, UART-less)
PICS for taking in MIDI data, but none for the 16F877A. Since I tend to be
more of an analog person and am new to microcontrollers in general, this is
turning out to be a steep learning curve. I bought the Myke Predko book,
but sometimes it overwhelms me.. and I have the pdf files from the Microchip web
site, but I am still not sure how to implement the UART - perhaps I missed
something? In any case, if anyone here knows of good resources of
MIDI/UART/PIC related information or even examples of related assembler
code, they could pass it along?
