bear with me, i'm really new at this.

what i'm looking for is some sort of site or info to help me ID types of capacitors. i've got a silvertone amp that's got to be from the thirties judging by the badging on it and the caps are literally dripping. it's a really simple circuit so i figured it wouldn't be that hard to do a cap job on this thing. i have no trouble reading the rating on it (they're huge and the lettering is black on light orange) but i'm unsure as to what *type* of caps i'm looking for here.

are there hard and fast rules for IDing cap types?

thanks for any help,
