For a complete PCB yes, but for the OP just put some solder paste on the adapter, place the IC in roughly the right place and shove it in the oven for a few minutes. It will centre itself up.

I've never tried an air frier - does anyone know if they work ?

I don’t think anyone does SMD soldering without some form (or, my case, forms) of magnification.
Buy an LCD desk microscope and a head-mounted, lighted magnifier visor. And get started! I also suggest investing in a hot air soldering station, and a tube of squeeze-out solder paste.
I’m 70 with similar sight problems. It’s doable.
Have at it!!
