I have one of the maybe five PAiA 2700 systems in Argentina.I also have a copy of that scientific american magazine, and, a few years back I tried to convince a friend to port the PAiA software to an arduino based device.I always thought they were the underdog, in terms of publicity. They were using computers to drive modular stuff before the Buchla 300 came out, I believe.
Thanks to both of them, and rest in peace.

My first modular I built from a Paia kit, a 4700/j. I think it had three VCOs, two VCFs and two VCAs and EGs. This was my introduction to modular. It started my journey into modular. It also had a 6503 processor built into the keyboard.

A Scientific American Magazine by Martin Gardener wrote how music statistically was pink noise, or 1/f. Someone created software, Pink Freud tha would do cannons, and John Simonton wrote something called Pink tunes. It was so good, Larry Fast used it on one of his albums.

It was my introduction to generative music.

When John passed, Scott kept Paia alive. RIP to both of you.
