Thanks so much for the reminder! :) I remember when the MOTM-730 was in the works. Paul and I talked about it years later after, he had sold off MOTM and was well into eurorack. Now I'm back reading those threads lol!

I got on the MOTM mailing list around 2007 and interacted with Paul on that for a number of years, getting to meet him in person at synth meetups in Fort Worth. I don't think it was until he moved back from Phoenix to Fort Worth that we started talking regularly on the phone. I have a small row of this MOTM modules, but I have almost everything he made in eurorack. I guess that's why we talked on the phone a lot as he was always looking for feedback from his customers. Or he was looking to sell first to his loyal customers. I got to see Paul in person maybe 2 or 3 times a year, either on road trips up to Dallas-Fort Worth or at Knobcon. He never hesitated to share his knowledge and experience and time with other designers and manufacturers. I was fortunate to get to meet his wife Tammy a few times and visit Synthesis Technology headquarters (his garage). I brought him barbecue, and he offered me an endless supply of Dr Pepper and the occasional goodie box of electronic random stuff. I still have the Fairlight pen he gave me. I wouldn't trade all the hours we burned talking about test equipment, calculators, nixie tubes and pinball machines for anything. I'm not unique. He will be missed by many.

When we acquired the rights to MOTM from Paul some years ago, we had lengthy conversations about (almost everything)-- and he basically dared us to make modular synths, 5U and thru-hole DIY work in the era of e-commerce, social media and eurorack... And if anything, ten years on, this list is evidence that what he helped design and build, and what this community represents and makes, is here for the long run. 
We've never met or spoken to Tammy-- but if we could, we'd try and communicate the enormous positive impact Paul has had on this community- it can't have been easy every day for her (another pinball machine in the garage? Really?) and we can only hope that the immense positive community spirit in some way helps her manage what must be enormous grief. 
Thoughts and prayers, for real.

Subject: [sdiy] Sad News about Paul Schreiber. Hey SDIY -

I just got off a call with Paul Schreiber's wife Tammy who let me know 
that he passed away in the hospital this morning while waiting for heart 
surgery. I've been chatting with him almost daily over the last few 
weeks and he was in good spirits, hopeful for his upcoming procedure and 
a quick recovery. We'd been working on some new ideas that he was 
planning to release for production later this year.

Paul was a consummate engineer with deep roots in music and technology 
and had worked on portions of the TRS-80 ecosystem, the Realistic 
Concert-Mate MG-1 synth, the MOTM modular system and many Eurorack 
modules. He had been an active participant in the early days of this 
mailing list and was well known for strong opinions although in recent 
years he spent more of his online time on other forums.

Paul and I began working together in 2007 after I'd posted a little 
digital oscillator project to this list. Our collaboration resulted in 
many of the Synthesis Technology Eurorack modules from the first E350 
Morphing Terrarium oscillator to the final E520 Hyperion processor. He 
was fun to work with and a great friend. I will miss him.
