What you really want is a power series:
... + a_-n * f^-n.x + ... + a_-1 * f^-1.x + a_0 * f^0.x + a_1 * f^1.x
+ ... + a_m * f^m.x + ... + C
For . = apply and f = exp and limiting to n=m=1, you get
a_-1 * ln(x) + a_0 * x + a_1 * e^x + C
or for people scared of subscripts:
u * ln(x) + v * x + w * e^x + C
This gives you a lot of control.

One of those things that seems obvious once you’ve seen it, but being the first to come up with this is extremely impressive to me. Or has anything like this been done before?
