[sdiy] Rugged USB connectors in an XLR form factor

A friend asked me about ruggedizing USB connectors, and I was reminded
of these things that I've seen ages ago. A panel mounted USB connector
in an XLR form factor. But, does a matching plug for plugging into
these exist? Was such a cable or specialized connector ever sold? Or
is the idea that you plug in a regular USB plug into it, and the form
factor is simply for convenience of panel mounting the socket in a
panel with holes drilled for an XLR jack? My google-fu so far turned
up nothing.
