[sdiy] CNC for synth DIY?

Colleagues,

For whatever it's worth: I use my CNC for milling circuit boards and
making front panels. Making double-sided boards is all I need, and
that's relatively easy with auto-leveling. I can go through several
prototypes in a day. After that, I generally don't need any more boards.
If I did, I'd probably use a board-making service--but there's never
been a need.

While I mill the aluminum panels with the CNC, I create the lettering,
etc., using desktop publishing software (InDesign), print using a
good-quality ink jet printer, laminate the output, and then use a laser
cutter to cut the holes/slots for the front panel. The laminated paper
is attached to the panel using double-sided tape and the nuts that
secure the components. I end up with modules that look good enough for
my purposes.

Thanks,

Olav
