Another neat property of LFSRs is that with correctly-chosen taps they will output a permutation of all their possible values except 0 (there must always be at least one bit set). This is for example how the Wolfenstein 3D "fizzle fade" effect is achieved. I feel like there's some sort of very clever arpeggiator in that, somewhere.
