[sdiy] SMT transistor for white noise?

I have a 70s 1N47xx (I forget what it is) 12 volt Zener diode that 
crackles and whistles.
It's my favorite in my collection of noise generators! This thing is 
raunchy and doesn't need a lot of gain.
