[sdiy] What's the best freeware schematic capture and PCB layout software

Now I'm hooked. Not because of Comic Sans which I greatly despise, but:

Is there a possibility to make KiCad schematics look like those classic 
Elektor schematics? I always liked their visuals. Bonus points for 
tweaking the PCB layout engine to resemble the Elektor PCB artwork.
