You even have to be careful with who you share what you think is free information with.  At a conference 27 years ago we were brainstorming a problem with ADSL broadband over a beer or six, and then a couple of months later our solution was patented by one of those present who contributed nothing to the discussion.  And with no notes of the evening we had no way to challenge the patent.  His company made a fortune in licencing fees at a couple of cents per line.

I agree that free (as in beer) information should be widely shared.
