I think I'd vote with Douglas on most things.  The only things I would take issue with is his mic amp designs tend to be behind the times and he never embraced the 4580 as a 'good as is needed but at less power' 5532.

I remember that Paul Schreiber took issue with many of the details and techniques
promoted in the Douglas Self book. I'd have to dig deep to resurrect what those
were exactly.
