Wow. That doesn't fit with my assessment of the AES. They've contributed a great deal to audio electronics design, even with no profit motive - just a sense of helping everyone make better audio.

Case in point is finding the "pin 1 problem," diagnosing a cure, and then publicizing the solution for free so that basically every mixer design now includes the AES fix. Neutrik even has an XLR-f jack that incorporates the fix (of course, they make these jacks for profit, but you don't have to use these jacks to benefit from the AES knowledge).

Anyway, the worst thing that can happen is that the AES actually laughs at the idea. That's not really any worse than not asking and assuming that the response will be laughter.
