[sdiy] flashing LED?? blinking led FLED (are they internally similar to a UJT?)

I remember that in the 90s I built an artsy object that had three fLEDs
(normal looking 5mm red LEDs that flashed) hidden in the back and 3
normal green LEDs wired between each pair of the fLEDs. the green LEDs
would blink in random patterns as the fLEDs frequencies were all
slightly off and would beat against each other...
