I soak the boards in dirty IPA to remove most of it and break the solid surface of flux residues. It can be dirty AF, I replace it only once it gets dark yellow-gray. Then the boards go to ultrasonic cleaner with Electrolube SWAS. It smells nice, safe for you hands, and does the job nicely. Anyone who got my boards could confirm. The best part - it is not bothered with dirt and keeps it off the boards. According to datasheet it works up to 12% of contamination. I replace the fluid only after cople of thousands of PCBs.
