FWIW, SOT-23 jellybean part does not mean a weak part. I regularly use 
SOT23 mosfets with 3A to 5A maximum current, with Rdson way below 0.1 
ohm. Mouser search will reveal many options even more powerful.
2N2007 among FETs is like uA741 among opamps
