[sdiy] smooth transition between series and parallel topologies

if you want to transition between series and parallel filters
gradually, this might work:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg73j3QYRJc

(in case the video becomes unavailable - it shows a weight hung up on
a vertical series of: spring, short blue string, and another spring,
off of which the weight is hanging. then there is a red string that is
not taut which is connected from the weight to the bottom of the top
string, and another green one from the top of the top spring to the
top of the bottom spring.)

imagine the red and blue strings are fixed medium value resistors, and
the blue string is a resistor that goes from 0 to "very high". the
springs are filters.

of course, the springs could be other things too, like delays, comb filters, ...

in fact, you could also have dissimilar bits in there.

as you make the blue string longer, the green and red strings become
taut and the springs gradually go from a series arrangement to a
parallel arrangement.

i wonder if anyone's used that sort of arrangement and how it worked
out. i know some synths have smooth transition between series and
parallel. is this how it was done?

best regards
