OrchLab: Sharing the Wonder of Music with Disabled Adults

OrchLab supports music-making and music appreciation for disabled adults.
This is done through workshops, accessible instruments and tech, bespoke
web activities, training and events. Now in its third three-year phase,
OrchLab is run by the London Philharmonic Orchestra
partnership with Drake Music
experts in music, disability and technology.

Dav will give an overview of the OrchLab programme, focusing on:

   - OrchLab workshops
   - OrchLab website which has browser-based instruments
   - Bespoke accessible instruments which have been designed in
   collaboration with OrchLab participants
   - How these instruments are used in OrchLab workshops

*Dav Shiel is a session drummer with a background in inclusive music-making
and education. He has taught Music in SEN/D schools for several years, and
facilitates inclusive music ensembles aimed at disabled and non-disabled
young people and adults, collaborating with orchestras such as London
Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. Dav is an experienced
technologist and has worked as an Associate Musician and Project Manager
with Drake Music for several years, delivering on flagship projects
including Soundbox in collaboration with LSO and THAMES music service, and
OrchLab with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Dav is also an endorser of
the Sounds of Intent framework of musical development.*
