I believe the first documented use was in an early power supply IC to stabilise the thing.  Don't think it was a Widlar design though, possibly one of Pease's.  But as with all these things, someone probably did it with a valve long before that.

No idea how you've missed the term before - it's been the common name for that arrangement since the late 1970s.

Had never run into a capacitance multiplier before, Mike. At least I thought that until I looked at it ;) This is just one of them there "slow emitter followers" :P yessir
