I saw a snippet of an interview with Tim Cook recently where he said Apple couldn't build its products in the USA *for any price* because the large-scale manufacturing expertise — people who know how to build & maintain factory tooling — is largely gone, whereas in China it's readily available/accessible
This seems a rather difficult situation to recover from. How can you even teach it if the remaining experts are rapidly disappearing? How can you even get enough people interested in that career path when ~nobody knows anyone (locally) that does it?
