[sdiy] Synth Mixer

Most guitarists go through a pedal board nowadays so the signal level and impedance feeding the mixer is nothing like what comes out of a guitar pickup.

Certainly. Instrument input is very important, which also bring up a point. If a guitarist is using the mixer that guitarist will need some handsfree controls right. I do that currently in my synth rig with pedals that control some functions for me while my hands are occupied. Wouldn't that be cool?

Instrument input, like an input with the correct gain and impedance to plug an electric guitar directly into it?

Would you be able to route the mic to synth modules? I think that would be fun. Also, an instrument input

Mike,
I'm designing the mixer for the purpose of selling it. The mics should be dynamics like an sm58. I'm not going to support phantom power because this is a performance mixer, although we considered that for about 5 minutes. The mixer will have +/-15v rails. I mention that because the mic pre needs to sit on those and be very happy.

I'll check out the book though.

The one effect that i was thinking would be so cool is distortion for the vocals.

First question nowadays has to be what sort of mics ? Traditional low-impedance, USB or PDM.

If it’s a pure analogue mixer then strongly suggest you buy Douglas Self’s book on audio design and use the circuits in there. The mic amp isn’t the best, but more than adequate for most uses.
That said, are you sure it isn’t easier just to buy a small mixer as many come with licenced effects from the major players that you won’t be able to replicate yourself.

I'm designing a new synth mixer for live performance. I am contemplating only one or two mic inputs. When I perform with synths I'm using a mic that's going into a different mixer that has effects. I may do built in basic effects and a loop for the mics. I'm focusing on the mic section right now.

Opinions please.
