[sdiy] Momentum in front panel controls?

I don't have an answer but I've been interested in this too. Some kind of flywheel on an encoder would be fun, maybe not for normal sizes or normal pots, but I imagine a 1 foot diameter continuous encoder with some great momentum would be a fun interface, along the lines of the monome arc.
