I also note that the schematic is dated 2013, and the same PDF file
contains a picture of the board on which all the ICs and nearly all the
other components appear to be surface-mount.  So the DIP LM13700N would
have been eight years away from discontinuation at the time anyway, even
though they didn't use it, and the SOIC version at least nine years
(assuming they discontinue it this year, which we have no strong reason to
expect).

Steve, the thread starter, has said that he thought it unwise for them to
use the LM13700 *even in SOIC* because the chip is ultimately doomed, but
that decision would have looked better in 2013 than it might today.
