[sdiy] Amphenol edge card connector sides touch?

I had to use connectors like this when I had a PAIA MVCI mainboard and multiple cards.
Ultimately I had to flow solder over the ends of the PCB to keep the connections steady enough for digital control lines.
I missed the Apple ][ era of DIY cards and I don’t think I missed anything good.

I would not use them again unless this was a once-in-five-years connection and there was some kind of steel bootstrap holding them in place.

The pins from the two sides are touching each other when no card is installed, causing the module to short power out. Is this normal for these connectors? Is there a way to stretch it out? Anyone have experience with this?
