David Kulka is the main repair guy (and bought the MTM contents of Steven St Croix’s estate) of the Marshall Time Modulator. There were a couple of other rack units that got close; the Loft 440/450 and the Micmix Dynaflanger, in pedal form, the FoxRox TZF 1+2, also out of production.
I have owned 3 of them; the 1st sold to hard times; 2nd was returned to an eBay scammer who claimed it was owned by Martin Hannett; the 3rd, still in my studio, was supposedly owned by Roger Waters but I never bothered to ask for provenance.
With the exception of a Dynacord TAM-19, Bel BF-20 Flanger, A/DA Flanger, Klark Teknik DN-34/36, and the Roland SBF-325, I have had and compared the sounds of similar analogue / BBD flangers: TC1210, Eventide FL-201, Loft 450, Audio Design Recording ADR S24, WMS Flanger, MXR Flanger/Doubler, MXR AutoFlanger, Systech 4000A (and a few more over the years), nothing compares to the deep, lush, swirl the MTM can produce.
I just bought a spare ADL60 delay module, but a certain list member can tell you about his 8 MTMs and how they most likely are a bunch of hot-rodded Reticon SAD1024/2048/4096 BBDs buried deep within epoxy. I just wish I had the smarts to make it myself, would have saved me a hell of a lot of money.
