The DX7 also behaves like this. If you press the sustain pedal and hit one key again and again, it gets louder and louder (up to REALLY loud - this way I could even get louder than the guitarist of the band I played with back then).
I always thought this was done on purpose. Maybe they tried to emulate the behaviour of a piano - with the sustain pedal pressed there’s no damper and every hit of the hammer adds more energy to the string.
