I'm certain that Buchla was not ordering any parts from hobbyist-grade fab houses.

There are plenty of professional-grade manufacturing options that don't cater to online automated ordering. They use the old-fashioned telephone system to handle orders. It's amazing to hold a cheap prototype PCB next to a professional grade PCB fab. You can see the difference in precision with the naked eye.

It's just that it's so tempting to go to China and get unpredictable results because the cost is so low. We all know that Buchla products are *not* cheap.
