It’s not like Roland was an industry leader in PSU technology. We need a good power supply for a Jupiter 8. Done.
You want your electronics to be tolerant of conventional supplies. Unless we’re talking about a current-starved USB plug, synth power supplies are good enough. 
I am driving a homemade bass synth using Alfa chips with a tiny cheap bipolar buck converter board. It sounds lovely powered with a wall wart.

Modular synths are current pigs. Too many modules use 7XXX voltage regulators sucking up too much current.  If we could just start to back away from zener diodes and shunt regulators on our modules, the power budget could plummet. If Eurorack is supposed to supply a standard set of rails, let’s just once and for all really start to use what’s there trustingly. And no I don’t care if it’s a switching supply.
