I worked in test and measurement a lot, I did not do much EE stuff, more 
FW. I figure if the EEs can use SMPS to get stuff to accurately measure 
in the nV range then they must be fairly good.

Like a number of people have mentioned it's doable. Think the trick is 
don't buy cheap, crappy consumer supplies and knowing what you're doing. 
I think whether the cost of a good SMPS verses the cost of a linear 
supply is worth it is the real question.
