It may be more universal than "american company" experience.

The Phoenix Contact screw terminals I used were actually manufactured in 
Poland, so I thought I'll contact the company and get them here. They 
responded pretty quickly but with a price twice bigger than I was paying 
at Mouser. So I accepted the fact that traveling across Atlantic both 
ways makes the part loose a lot of value and bought from Mouser ever since.

The quote was for the same quantity as Mouser was buying from them, I 
usually cleared Mouser stock completely on that part.

But there's a happy end to the story too, later they appeared at TME at 
even lower price, so now poor connectors don't have to travel tens of 
thousands kilometers to get to me.
