What is so strange about it?
Every company is making new products, and in some areas they are
oblidged by law to provide spare parts for couple of years.
New part is most of the time not compatible as new technologies become
common or they found a way to make it half cheaper - think how computers
evolved, how many obsoleted connectors passed over the mainboard.
And assistance? Yes they provide assistance how to replace the part in
equipment that is compatible with new spare part. If it's not - you're
on your own and you're voiding any warraties on the equipment and the
spare part.

This is not "one nice super cool guy company", this is just a business
to make money.
