It probably was more among the lines of not having thought about it, as 
polytimbrality back then wasn't much of a thing apart from maybe 
keyboard splitting, I guess.

An ~1MHz 6303 should've provided enough juice to keep the registers 
updated, I guess, even with requiring 16 LFOs instead of just one.

After all, a 1MHz 6809 works wonders in the Mirage running Soundprocess 
OS -- and there it would even need to serve audio-rate interrupts.
