This is also fixed-point arithmetic (and in this case should be saturating to 
work correctly), so you once a number becomes smaller (or larger) than what 
you can represent after the exponentiation you get to chose as what value to 
treat it.  Obviously it makes sense to treat that minimum value as a zero in 
some places and something else in others.
