When I was a kid, I used to go to Derby just to visit - a hour and half on the bus. The shop is tiny, but rammed full of stuff, so they could often find something that would work.

Still, places like that must be rare as hen's teeth now. The Maplin shop that Derby also had is long gone, as Mike mentioned.
