[sdiy] ALFA clone chips?

If you're not aware, list price for shipping across the border in EU is
about $100 with all major couriers. But it is very common to get huge
discounts if you ship frequently. ALFA probably does not ship many
packages, only dealing with few resellers and freaks like me.
And there's the price of packing stuff - someone has to do it. The SMD
parts I got from them were custom packed for me - the quantity I ordered
was placed in continuous tape with starter and ender included, so it was
not just snipped out of the regular reel.

I can only guess but considering the discount I have with couriers (and
I'm just small puppy), it would not surprise me if for example Farnell
or Mouser had 97% discount on shipping.

There's a company in Singapore who will strip off each layer of an IC and generate new masks but also an accurate schematic of the IC so you can make an exact clone or an improved version should you so wish. But they can only give you an estimate of deposition times and so you need to run a full trial and errors runs to get that right.
