We’ve decided to carry the full line of Alfa chips at synthcube, as feedback from customers has continued to be generally positive. We’ll continue offering the OnChip 3340 because of its popularity, and out of respect for Mary Curtis. And we are expanding to offer all the Sound Semi chips too... so many good choices.

It’s a well-maintained site with real inventory transparency.
The Alfa Rpar site is kind of incomprehensible to me. That’s because I am American.
I am aware of https://infinitemachinery.com selfing Alfa chips, including the 3345 breakout.
At this time I am out of money for these activities, so I’m just reading everyone’s comments with interest.

Was that $40 from Latvia to Poland? Isn't this just around the corner?

Last time I bought ALFA chips, it was in quantities just above 10, and I
think it was possible then to even buy 1.
ALFA sells directly, just email them.
Shipping may be expensive though, like $40 or so.
Funny the subject poped up just now, as I finally soldered my Alfa chips
test-module 2 days ago. Picture attached.

Are these still only available from the "boutique" distributors? I'll
buy from them but I'd prefer to buy from Digikey, Mouser or Arrow or
other large mainstream distributor if I can. Will they ever pick up
these lines, or is the total expected sales quantity just too small,
or what? Digikey and Mouser carry lots of Adafruit and Sparkfun stuff,
I've ordered the breakout boards for several hard-to-hand-solder
chips, they're a great convenience. If the big distributors can carry
those, I would think they could carry the synth chips.

I thought what these companies did (CoolAudio aka Uli Behringer, ALFA, SSI) was take photos of the old chips and re-issue them based off that?
Sort of. There's a company in Singapore who will strip off each layer of an IC and generate new masks but also an accurate schematic of the IC so you can make an exact clone or an improved version should you so wish. But they can only give you an estimate of deposition times and so you need to run a full trial and errors runs to get that right.
