Way back in the nineties, there was free software for the NeXT Computer that ran on the DSP, and did real-time vocal tract modeling. I think it was called G.R.A.S.P. for Graphical Real-time Audio Simulation Program ... or something like that. It had a simpler depiction of the vocal track and could be manipulated in real time. It came out of one of the universities that had NeXT Computers available for music students to use for audio software development, and several great free programs came out of this.

Of course, almost nobody can run that software any more, much less even find a copy.

The Pink Trombone is more elaborate, and obviously runs on many computers. Wow, the internet, indeed!
