[sdiy] FCC And Other Testing

I recently ran into trouble receiving a package from Erica Synths in
Latvia. They normally declare a low value since these are demo units I
receive to make videos and manuals for, but this time they forgot and it
was declared as over 1000 USD, which is a kind of "threshold for customs
attention" here in Mexico. The result was that due to a new law from August
2020, customs was requiring that I pay all the necessary licensing papers
so that my rack with two modules inside could be legally imported, and it
came to over 3000 Euros total. Luckily I was able to find a knowledgeable
customs agent who managed to reclassify the package as "parts for
synthesizers" rather than a complete synth, and after a few weeks in
expensive storage, the import fees and the agent's own fees, ended up
costing 700 euros to release. Expensive, but it was still worth it to Erica
to pay, rather than abandon and ship me a new box with a low declared value.
Lesson learned!
Any electronics entering Mexico with a declared value over 1k usd is likely
to get stopped and possibly the NYCE certification will be required.
