Big old analogue desks are going for peanuts unless they’re something *really* famous - like “this desk recorded Bohemian Rhapsody” famous!
A friend of mine picked up a similar 40 channel Soundcraft studio desk from a university music dept. for a pittance. No-one else wanted something the size of a table. Even he didn’t keep it for long though. I don’t know what he did with it. I bet dozens have been junked.

Michael designed the custom mixers that were in the studios of Can and Conny Plank. He is extremely careful with noise and crosstalk. H wouldn’t allow me to use any digital clocking in the CV parts of the channel. Although not as expensive as an SSL or Neve, the Zähl is “price no object” by today’s standards and has taught me how a mixer becomes €50,000.

It has 8 sends, 8 busses, VCA groups, mute groups, balanced in/out, inserts on every channel NOT on send/receive jacks, sweepable hipass filter on each channel, serious 4 band semi perimetric EQ, fuil meterbridge built in. It was about €30,000 when new. But, it weighs about 150kg and uses an entire power circuit for itself, heating the room when on.

There are new boutique mixers on the market from some incredible designs out of Germany, but they have a price pack that is commensurate. I wish I was wrong — because I’m still not happy with the ultra portable Eurorack mixer options these days!
