A bit slow reply here, but thanks for all the great replies and
information on this topic! It seems there is hope if schematics of modern
gear become available.
I mentioned my old Farfisa Compact Duo as a good example of repairability,
and although I mentioned that some old stuff is easier to repair than some,
I didn't give any bad examples... Well, here is one: at one point I was
attempting to repair a British Vox Continental II. One of its issues was
broken key contacts. However, accessing them was a nightmare: the keybeds
were simply bolted on the chassis, and there wasn't really enough extra
length on all the wires to really get access to the key contacts. To repair
them, I would basically have needed to build some sort of wooden supports
for the keybeds. Simply longer wires would have made everything easier. The
Italian version of the same ogan, the Vox Supercontinental, apparently has
hinges on the keybeds, allowing them to be lifted for repair position very
easily.
Regards,
Antti
