That's a great example. 48 pins (instead of just 8 for some PIC) should be plenty for scanning a velocity key bed. If not, another 13 cents buys 12 extra pins. Microchip is great because you can save money dialing in the exact features you need, without paying for features that you won't use. I have no idea how they maintain so many variations in their production.
Thanks for the info. I've designed with the PIC18F and several Texas Instruments processors, but have only seen the PIC24F in other projects.
