[sdiy] Designing front panels for synths

This may be slightly off topic, but how do people feel about PCBs as front panels? So far this has been how I have been doing it. I guess it’s not ideal, but the results are decent and quite cost effective when making small quantities.
Are there ways to make metal face plates in small quantities that are affordable?
