That's a funny story! Because, from the very first board I ever made, I
ALWAYS run the resistor stripes in the same direction. In fact, if I
accidentally install one upside-down, I will actually suck it off and
re-install it.

This is how it starts. :-) Once upon a time I had a guy upset that a little
perf-board project I did for him didn't have the resistor color codes all
running the same way. It had never crossed my mind. Now I'm cursed and
solder my PTH resistors as if they were polaraized. And maybe I'll just pass
that curse on to all of you.
Anyway, I am firmly in the camp of those that have responded so far.
Avant garde front panels would hurt my engineering brain too much.
