Don't buy the old Tektronix 5xx 'scopes that use vacuum tubes.
If you're buying a 'scope for building circuits or troubleshooting,
buy them from a reputable seller that guarantees 100% functionality.
Many 'scopes sold through auctions or classifieds are partially
working or way out of calibration, and the buyers don't even know it.
I'm a big fan of the Tektronix 7xxx series. It's a modular system.
Besides the usual vertical/horizontal plugins you could buy logic
analyzers, digital counters, transistor curve tracers, high precision
differential amplifiers, etc. One of my powerful configurations was
using the word recognizer trigger output on the logic analyzer to
trigger the horizontal module, and which let me use the analog scope
system to zoom in on a multiplexed analog stream in a polyphonic
synth. Boy that was handy for some tricky troubleshooting jobs.
