Same. My two early setbacks were the Paia Gnome and a Radio Shack 
shortwave radio. Both only partially worked. Luckily I stuck it out and 
was able to make some of the other Radio Shack red-p-box kits "go". I 
think the little organ thing, the neon bulb light chaser, crystal radio, 
and a few others. Placing the neon bulb chaser right next to the little 
organ and listening to the repetitive spacey effects that had on the 
sound, ... that's what pushed me over the edge. :)
