when you, on ebay or aliexpress, enter "LiPo 3.7V rechargeable",
does anything that comes up look to your liking?
they can get rather small when they are like 50 mAh or maybe 120.
Depending how *small* is your idea of "quite small".
And then you'd probably one a microcontroller pecifically geared towards
low power consumption. E.g. the STM32 L ... series (but those are the
only ones I know & have used, so can't say whether those ar particularly
good in that aim compared to others. They have L series with cortex M0
core up to M4 with floating point, which would probably be less "low
power" than smaller chips - all depending on what's needed),
And then implement all possible measures in the firmware to not eat more
power than needed - which is a thing that changes depending on
circumstances.
So you might find yourself turning off and on peripherals, reducing the
processor speed, etc, and even go to a sleep mode. To be woken up again
by some event.
