[sdiy] plug in pots

Ha - I don't think for a moment that this has been done for
serviceability reasons.
I see a situation where the design engineer needed a robust, vertical
pot with a particular height and - no doubt after many hours of
fruitlessly searching for a part that nobody makes - was left with this
as his/her only option! I bet they didn't like having to do it.
Depending on the size and philosophy of the organisation, he/she may
also have been under pressure to only use parts that they are already
purchasing for other products.
The joy of being a design engineer...

(who just spent hours trying to identify pots and knobs for a new range
of products that will please everyone and satisfy all known and unknown
requirements while being both cheap and readily available off-the-shelf)
