This sounds fine to me, but I think more professional advice would require
more info about your PS circuit.
If your regulators are providing 2amps, what are they drawing? Surely less
than 3amps, but this is all guess work.
This is probably not good advice, but I would just monitor the heat on the
transformer as you increase the load.
Perhaps someone else will have better commentary.
