[sdiy] VCO works without timing cap

I built some of my 3340 VCOs and forgot to install the 1nf timing
capacitor. Disturbingly, they seem to work nevertheless, albeit at a higher
pitch.
Is this normal, or does it mean I've done a bad layout with loads of stray
capacitance?
